Cox Business said today at The Cable Show that it has extended its business sales force by teaming with telecom equipment solutions provider, Nortel. As part of the multiyear agreement, Nortel Sales Center representatives will design and sell voice, data and equipment solutions to customers in select Cox service areas. Nortel also will install equipment solutions and provide technical support for these businesses.
In addition to Cox Business voice, data and video products, Cox Business customers will now have access to a full range of Nortel’s product and services packages including the Business Communications Manager (BCM), the company’s hybrid IP PBX.
Cox Business can now serve the customer from the point of initial sales and installation to maintenance and technical support, allowing Cox to enter the equipment resale market.
“The Cox, Nortel relationship signifies the first time an MSO and an equipment provider have teamed to address the business market,” said Tim McKinley, Vice President of field operations and channels for Cox Business. “Cox immediately gains an additional sales channel of seasoned professionals and broadens its portfolio with voice and data equipment solutions. Nortel will have access to a rich new source of leads, a growing customer base of more than 240,000 businesses.”
McKinley added that to date, the majority of Cox’s sales have been in-house, but “as Cox’s customers grow in size, scope and complexity, we will continue to seek alternative ways to serve them.”
Cox Business provides communications services to business customers in 18 markets across the U.S., including small businesses, multilocation enterprises, regional health care providers and federal, state and local government organizations.
