AT&T Inc. said Monday it has accelerated the rebranding of Cingular Wireless in advance of the launch of the Apple iPhone.
Cingular will be known simply as AT&T. The decision to move to this phase of the branding campaign is based on research that consumer awareness of the switch is ahead of expectations, AT&T said.
AT&T on Monday replaced the Cingular name on all in-store materials at the nearly 1,800 company-owned wireless retail stores across the country. Some stores in major markets also have replaced the name on the exterior of the buildings.
The company said the store makeovers are important for next months launch of the iPhone, which AT&T will be the exclusive provider in the United States. Many stores in the companys footprint also will advertise other AT&T products, such as high-speed Internet and TV services.
AT&T began advertising the rebranding in January after the AT&T-BellSouth merger was completed.
