Ixia, an IP performance test systems provider, on Tuesday announced new capabilities for its Optixia hardware platform that nearly triples the number of simultaneous subscribers that can be simulated in a single test system.
Using the Aptixia IxLoad Triple Play test application, service providers and system vendors can simulate virtual countries of Web users, more than 40 million, connecting at a rate of more than 1.5 million users per second; virtual cities of voice callers, making more than 60,000 simultaneous calls; and virtual towns of video subscribers, more than 30,000 video subscribers receiving 3.75mbps MPEG2 video all from a single test system. A single Optixia test platform with the new Content Processing Module (CPM) can deliver these results in less than 16 inches of rack space and only 1,900 watts maximum power draw. To provide equivalent results, the nearest competitor would require 18 individual appliances using six times the rack space and more than four times the power draw used by the single Ixia chassis-based system.
