Wholesale Wi-Fi network aggregator Boingo Wireless Inc., on Wednesday announced its acquisition of Concourse Communications Group LLC, an airport neutral-host wireless access systems operator.
The acquisition combines Concourses neutral-hosting operations with Boingo’s global Wi-Fi network aggregation and wireless Internet access services for Boingo subscribers and partners. Boingo said the business lines are complementary with no operational overlap, which allows Boingo to retain almost all Concourse employees.
Boingo also operates neutral-host networks installed and maintained by Concourse at airports in Chicago, New York City and other top-100 airports. The company plans to continue pursuing neutral-host network installations in large-scale facilities.
Boingo’s investors, which include New Enterprise Associates, Mitsui & Co. Venture Partners, Sternhill Partners and Evercore Ventures, retain a majority stake in Boingo. Concourse’s investors, which include Cardinal Growth, acquired a minority share in Boingo as part of the transaction.
