Covad Communications Group Inc. is deploying higher-speed wireless Ethernet services thanks to a partnership with Nextlink Wireless Inc., which is the largest holder of 28-31GHz Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS) wireless spectrum in the country.
Covad now will be able to include access speeds up to 25mbps per subscriber location, although initially just in the Los Angeles area. The wireless Ethernet services allow SMBs and enterprises to get VoIP and other next-generation applications. Covad will expand the services reach to 11 markets including Chicago, Dallas, Miami, New York, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
We will significantly boost our strength in the business space, while Nextlink benefits from the use of its wireless assets, said Charles Hoffman, president and CEO of Covad, in a statement. Best of all, business customers across the U.S. are the biggest winners, gaining an alternative in broadband that is reliable, top quality and very price-competitive.
Nextlink is a subsidiary of XO Holdings Inc.
