Nakina Systems Inc. has launched Nakina Networks OS 5.0, the next version of the companys flagship product.
Nakina Networks OS 5.0 is a network operating system that serves as a mediation layer and single point of integration between the network itself and higher-level network management /OSS systems. Its flexible architecture allows it to address multi-vendor networks consisting of legacy and next generation technology, all on one system.
This release expands the services offered to higher-level Nakina and third-party OSS applications like inventory management, service activation, fault management and performance management.
These new services include: centralized collection of performance measurement statistics, with the ability to store several weeks worth of performance data in a multi-vendor, multi-technology network; and device configuration services, with advanced features like the ability to populate a configuration template and have it propagate across any number of devices, ensuring consistency in the commissioning and configuration of networking equipment.
The company has also ingrained the patent-pending Nakina Discovery into the Nakina Network OS, making it available as a fundamental service to all Nakina and third party network applications.
Service providers are under extreme pressure to roll-out their next generation infrastructure in support of services like IPTV and the quad-play, said Sergio Pellizzari, chief solutions architect at Nakina. A major impediment has been weak element management systems which are often out-of-sync with vendors new hardware releases. Thats a major headache for service providers that the Nakina Network OS helps ease.
The Nakina Network OS offers:
1. One network operating system to replace multiple, disparate EMS software platforms. Nakina eliminates the need for many proprietary single-vendor EMSs by introducing a network operating system to serve as a layer of abstraction and single point of integration between OSS/BSS software and all the various network element types.
2. One set of applications applying to all equipment. Nakina Network Applications represent most common features and functions found in EMS software (automated backup and restore capabilities, remote software upgrades, etc.). Each application can be used to manage any vendor’s equipment, streamlining training requirements and providing network operators with a single common interface and set of procedures for managing elements across the entire network.
3. One network discovery engine. Nakina Network OS includes the Nakina Discovery engine that automatically scans and detects new network additions and changes helping service providers eliminate the 20 to 40 percent inaccuracies common in inventory databases today. This improves the performance of all NMS/OSS applications relying on accurate inventory data to perform functions such as service activation and inventory management.
4. One device driver per device-type to handle vendor-specific communications. The Nakina Network OS operates much like an operating system for a computer. It uses device drivers, or network adapters, to handle each vendor’s device-specific communication protocol idiosyncrasies, allowing all applications residing on the Nakina Network OS to be created independently and to be applied equally to all network elements.
5. One solution for securing access. The Nakina Network OS and related Nakina security applications allow security administrators to enforce strong security policies in day-to-day operations across the network. Security administrators eliminate shared passwords (which are common today) while gaining the ability to precisely designate the applications, commands, and network elements that each user may access.
