A handful of IPTV vendors, led by mPhase Technologies Inc., has joined forces to offer a prepackaged started kit for telcos wanting to get into the IPTV quickly and easily.
We designed this offer specifically for operators under siege, said Ron Durando. Heres a pre-configured IPTV solution, thoroughly tested and certified, thats designed for immediate deployment and rapid time to revenue. The complexity of provisioning, managing, and delivering interactive Internet-based television content over broadband networks can be daunting. mPhases scalable, single-cabinet IPTV in a Box offer is designed for worry-free integration into existing operations systems.
IPTV in a Box is a self-contained mPhase TV+ System built around HP ProLiant servers, incorporating pre-configured and tested technology for managing the delivery and provisioning of video-on-demand services down to compatible set-top boxes.
The mPhase TV+ System software manages the delivery of IPTV service from a video headend to the STB controlling the consumer’s television. The offer includes 1,000 consumer kits of Amino set-top boxes and 1,000 BestData ADSL2+ modems.
IPTV in a Box also includes video-on-demand software from Entone; software-defined content authentication from Latens; the iPlex headend hardware and software for encoding TV content from SkyStream; and digital electronic program guide software from Triveni. Content itself is not part of the package.
Mike Devlin, executive vice president of sales at mPhase, said the IPTV in a Box solution is targeted at deployments of around 1,000 subscribers, although it can scale to fit the service providers needs. Its intended for both smaller service providers as well as large carriers that want to trial IPTV without a big financial commitment.
The vendor group thinks most initial deployments of the solution will be for broadband TV and on-demand services, said Devlin, but the Linux-based platform can be expanded to offer many services and can be customized by the service provider as needed.
Base configuration of IPTV in a Box is priced at $500 per subscriber as part of a special offer running from March 20 through June 20.
