Wholesale provider Level 3 Communications Inc. is buying 300GB of transatlantic capacity from Apollo Submarine Cable System Ltd. to accommodate the growth of its IP network.
“The purchase increases the total available capacity on our transatlantic network to more than 700 gigabits immediately and greater than 1,000 gigabits should we exercise our right, said Brady Rafuse, president of Level 3 in Europe. This investment facilitates the ongoing scalability of our network, guaranteeing supply to accommodate growth in the medium term.
Prior to the transaction, Level 3 had 480GB of lit transatlantic capacity; approximately 85 percent of it is in service and being used.
The Apollo Cable System consists of two submarine transatlantic cable legs connecting Long Island and New Jersey in the United States, with Cornwall in the U.K. and Brittany in France.
