Exchange and colocation provider Switch and Data said today it has again increased its footprint in New York City, due to demand for Internet connectivity.
The company has added 25,000 square feet to its 8th Avenue carrier hotel. It also has upgraded the optical network interconnectivity capacity in and between 111 8th Ave. and 60 Hudson, another New York City carrier hotel, with the Cisco Systems Inc. ONS 15600 Multiservice Switching Provisioning Platform.
Switch and Data also installed Cisco ONS 15216 Metropolitan Dense Wave Division Multiplexing technology at its 60 Hudson location so it can deliver more services per wavelength and more wavelengths per fiber.
We are seeing surging demand from a diverse marketplace made up of telecom carriers, VoIP providers, content providers, ISPs, MSOs, MSPs, ASPs and enterprises to increase connectivity to the Internets core and network hubs, said Ali Marashi, vice president of engineering and CIO at Switch and Data.
