BellSouth Corp. (Booth 504) is announcing the availability of its Wavelength Dedicated Ring Service (WDRS) and Wavelength Channel Service (WCS), which will provide customers with transparent and bit-rate specific optical transport options in the bandwidth ranges of 1, 1.25, 2.5 and 10 gigabits.
Designed for transport of optical services between customer-designated locations, WDRS is a ring-diverse DWDM optical network dedicated to a single customer. It features bit-rate independence, which gives customers the ability to choose any speed within the specified range without worrying about formatting. As needed, BellSouth can activate additional wavelengths and keep the customers business moving without interruption.
Working from a minimum configuration of three nodes up to more complex configurations with numerous customer nodes and CO nodes, WDRS can grow as customers networks grow. A customer can start with a single wavelength and expand to as many as 64 wavelengths.
Since WDRS is based on an active DWDM optical network with ring architecture, it provides greater protection against service interruptions, the company says, noting the service offers customers service-assurance guarantees for failures lasting longer than one second, and a guarantee on each individual wavelength.
BellSouth also introduced WCS and WCS Dedicated System, which provide all of the options available in the WDRS, except in a point-to-point configuration. WCS may be purchased as individual wavelength channels. WCS Dedicated System provides dedicated capacity from one up to 16 or 32 wavelengths over an active DWDM system.
It also offers diversity on the network serving the customer premises location.
