Mpower Expands Hosted IP PBX Availability

Show sponsor Mpower Communications (Booths 415-417) announces VoicePipe, its hosted IP PBX product for small and medium enterprises and the Fortune 1,000, is available for agents to sell in the Chicago market. The service will soon roll out nationwide, the carrier says.


With the recent acquisition of ICG Communications in California and its VoicePipe hosted PBX business solution, Mpower has rolled out a managed service that operates over the firms private IP backbone with quality of service. VoicePipe is aimed at regional, branch and remote offices that have eight-to-10 employees, or large enterprises with hundreds of users that is looking to lower capex and opex.


The company encourages agents to sell VoicePipe as a value-added solution rather than a cost-saver. The differentiation of service will be on the implementation, meeting customer-set expectations, the local account team and support, and customer care and service, along with the features, security, QoS, resiliency and redundancy on VoicePipe itself.


VoicePipe comes with the ability to self-service, free maintenance and systems upgrades, free interoffice dialing and IP-to-IP calling from within the network, Outlook integration, and Microsoft Internet Explorer toolbars to manage call controls (do not disturb, call forwarding, voice mail, etc.). Enterprises have a choice of using IP phones from Cisco Systems Inc., Polycom Inc. or Xten.


Future enhancements will include a national dialtone footprint and full G.711-compliant PBX integration.


Mpower offers two rate plans: The first is for local and LATA (Zones 1, 2 and 3), priced at a flat rate with no overage charges; the second plan comprises adds in unlimited outbound long-distance to the contiguous 48 states. The sweet spot per-seat for the service is approximately $35, says the company, which will enable an enterprise an increase in productivity and a reduction in expenditures.


The service is available to customers on a nationwide basis as long as the business has at least one location within the Mpower footprint.
