As some CLECs experience hardships after the loss of UNE-P rules, another company has introduced an alternative to reselling RBOC lines.
Houston-based i3 Networks, a voice and data telecommunications firm, has developed UNE-3 Fractional Switch Ownership for CLECs. The company says the model contains four elements.
The first part is fractional ownership of a MetaSwitch VP3510 Class 5 Softswitch and UC9000 Unified Communications platform. The second is negotiated bulk purchase tariffs with major carrier partners including Level 3 Communications Inc., for nationwide central office facilities and low long-distance rates. The third is management services, including an around-the-clock network operations center in Dallas and ongoing switch maintenance. The fourth is financial assistance, which includes a leasing program.
i3 says the total package can offer significant savings and opportunity to service providers migrating from UNE-P, mostly due to the MetaSwitch platform. In addition to traditional POTS, the MetaSwitch lets carriers offer Web self-care, IP Centrex, VoIP, voice mail and unified messaging. Each of these features comes as part of the base UNE-3 package.
The firm says six CLECs already have signed on for the service.
