IDT Corp. said today it has signed a long-term wholesale services agreement with Verizon Communications Inc. for local phone service. The new agreement takes effect on Aug. 1.
Verizon will provide IDT, a CLEC, with dial-tone services or access to its local networks for a term lasting up to five years. The deal preserves the services IDT was able to offer under Verizons UNE-P offerings; the FCC earlier this year eliminated UNE-P requirements.
“This agreement between IDT and Verizon shows the competitive marketplace works free from federal regulation,” said Jim Courter, IDT’s CEO, in a prepared statement. “Telecom consumers get more choice and greater flexibility.
