The Walt Disney Internet Group announced yesterday it is becoming an MVNO as it teams with Sprint Corp. to offer its brand of wireless phone service for families in the United States.
The service, called Disney Mobile, will use the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network and is set to launch next year.
Disney Mobile will offer wireless voice service, exclusive handsets, entertainment content and more. Disney will oversee all aspects of the service, including product development, distribution, marketing, customer relations and billing.
This isnt Disneys first foray into the mobile arena. The company in 2000 launched branded content on NTT DoCoMo in Japan; Disney also owns ESPN, which is launching a wireless phone service for U.S. sports fans.
