Space Data Corp., a company providing wireless data services in rural areas, on Thursday announced a mutual roaming agreement with MCI Inc.
Space Data and MCI’s SkyTel expect to begin offering roaming this month for location and fleet management services, with roaming capabilities for two-way messaging service to follow later this year.
Space Data offers data communications services for messaging, telemetry, and vehicle location applications throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana as well as eastern New Mexico, western Arkansas and portions of the Gulf of Mexico.
“This strategic relationship offers significant business advantages for both companies,” said Space Data Chairman and CEO Gerald Knoblach in a press release. “Space Data specializes in offering coverage in rural areas, augmenting Skytel’s nationwide coverage in towns and cities.
