Verizon Communications Inc. today announced more TV programming lineups as a result of five additional network agreements, whose terms were not disclosed.
Verizon will carry the channels on Verizon FiOS TV, set to launch later this year. The channels are Varsity TV, produced by teens for teens; Gospel Music Channel; Soundtrack Channel; MavTV, a new network targeting men aged 18-54; and GolTV, a bilingual English/Spanish network dedicated to world soccer.
Verizon already has announced agreements with NBC Universal Cable, Starz Entertainment Group, Showtime Networks, A&E Television Networks and Discovery Networks, and says it is close to finalizing agreements with several other partners.
Verizon FiOS TV will offer customers an alternative to cable or satellite. It will deliver digital video channels, high-definition programming, video-on-demand content, music channels, an interactive programming guide and more over Verizons FTTP broadband network. The No. 1 local phone company already is building FTTP networks in half the states where it offers landline communications service.
