The biggest U.S. local phone companies on Thursday asked a federal appeals court in Washington, D.C. to review network rules the FCC released in December.
BellSouth Corp., SBC Communications Inc., Qwest Communications International Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. allege portions of the rules exceed the FCCs jurisdiction or authority, violate federal law, and fail to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court mandate and the directives of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
The network rules govern the conditions under which other telecommunications providers can access the networks of BellSouth, Qwest, SBC and Verizon.
Such regulations have been the subject of legal disputes over the last nine years.
