VarTec Telecom Inc., the parent of Emeritus Communications Inc. (Booths 407-409), this month is rolling out a residential local service based on the UNE-P platform. The offer will be sold through a new consumer agent channel as well as Emeritus’ existing commercial agent channel.
The new local service will be available in 43 states.
The local product launch coincides with VarTec’s initiative to bring Emeritus back under the VarTec umbrella. While the transformation is expected to take the rest of the year, the company already is consolidating operations functions under VarTec and shopping its new brand identity with a retooled logo unveiled Monday at the Channel Partners Conference & Expo.
Scott McClure has been tapped as senior director of agent sales for VarTec and will be in charge of distribution network for the residential local service product as well as a small business offer that is expected to be released later in the year. McClures previous work experience includes business development, sales management and national account sales in the software, telecom and pharmaceutical industries. He was responsible for all aspects of sales and operations for telecom startup Z3 Marketing, including negotiating strategic reseller relationships with Talk America, MCI and Z-Tel Communications. He has a bachelors degree in telecommunications from Ball State University.
Darrel Rasey, senior director of alternate channels for Emeritus, will retain oversight of the commercial agent channel Emeritus has developed.
"It’s a channel within a channel," says Bobby Mahler, Emeritus’ new general manager, who has oversight over both programs. Mahler was hired by VarTec in October to build the consumer local agent program before taking his new post in February.
