Lightyear Communications (Booth 505) recently unveiled two new products for the business market: BizValue and BizUnlimited.
BizUnlimited includes unlimited local calling and long-distance, plus calling features, starting at $54.99 per line per month. The plan is available in Georgia and Kentucky, and Lightyear says it is expanding to other regions.
BizValue includes the same features as BizUnlimited, but it does not include unlimited long-distance calling; the rate is 3.5 cents per minute. Lightyear says it offers BizValue in the BellSouth Corp. territory and the Indiana Ameritech market.
Through an agreement with XO Communications Inc. (Booths 528-530), Lightyear also is offering businesses a bundle of services over a T-1 line. Lightyear’s BizComplete product offers small and medium-sized businesses the option to combine local, long-distance, Internet, Web hosting and e-mail onto a single line.
Lightyear says February marked the first month of its "Overdrive Rate promotion," developed with MCI. Agents receive commissions of 15 percent to 25 percent for each new voice and data customer they provision to the MCI network, according to Louisville, Ky.-based Lightyear. The promotion covers dedicated voice, domestic frame relay, dedicated Internet, integrated Internet and dedicated private line. Lightyear says it also is participating in a promotion Qwest Communications International Inc. announced. As part of the program, Qwest is offering a bonus of $250 to $5,000 for private line, frame relay, ATM, dedicated Internet and dedicated voice services through May 29, according to Lightyear.
Lightyear says its "Get More Green" promotion will provide an all-expense paid, seven-day tour of Ireland for agents who produce $25,000 in new monthly business from January through April 2004.
"Things have been tough and competitive in the resale market. But we believe we have stepped up to the plate with programs that allow agents to make a robust profit, even while we offer our customers aggressively low rates," says Clay Masters, vice president of sales, Lightyear.
In October, Lightyear launched Lightyear Alliance. The alliance uses independent reps to sell LightyearHOME, a residential local and long-distance product. The representatives typically work at home, using network marketing methods to acquire customers and other alliance reps, a spokesman says.
