XO Communications Inc. has named Ernest "Ernie" Ortega as president of carrier sales. Ortega will lead the new XO Carrier Sales Group, which was established to strengthen the company’s focus on the carrier services market.
With this shift, XO will use its network assets and range of services to serve two distinct customer groups: carriers and commercial businesses. For its fledgling carrier market, XO has created a support system dedicated strictly to carrier sales that includes customer care, product management, sales engineering and service delivery.
"Ernie has proven abilities to energize people and develop successful sales strategies that drive revenue growth," says XO CEO Carl Grivner. "The establishment of our new carrier sales group demonstrates our growing success in this market, and we’re looking to Ernie to lead XO to even greater success."
Using its nationwide OC192 network, XO is targeting emerging and established carriers and service providers with carrier long distance, high-speed dedicated Internet access, wholesale dial-up, private line, wavelengths, colocation and SONET services.
Ortega has nearly two decades of telecommunications experience. As vice president of national accounts at XO, Ortega was responsible for developing and overseeing business strategy for enterprise and wholesale accounts, as well as directing all sales force activities. Since joining XO in 1999, Ortega has been a top performing sales executive who is credited with driving revenue to in excess of several hundred million dollars each year for the company. Prior to joining XO, Ernie held several sales management positions with MCI’s Southwest division.
XO offers local and long-distance voice, Internet access, virtual private networking, Ethernet, wavelengths, Web hosting, and integrated voice and data services.
