Comptel Velocity - July 2007
This summer's edition of COMPTEL VELOCITY, sponsored by Endeavor Telecom, takes on the reports and rumors that the Internet is ready to blow, stretched to its limits by the growth of high-bandwidth applications. Also find out about the importance and challenges of developing and maintaining a field force in order to provide higher-value services, and how competitive service providers can benefit from outsourcing their field service management.
Web 2.0
According to executives at carrier services and equipment companies, the Internet is managing the new load created by apps like video, social networking and gaming just fine, despite predictions otherwise. The only area where there’s real concern, most say, is related to the data rates and availability of broadband Internet access.
May the Field Force Be With You
To remain competitive, service providers today are offering more solution-oriented, higher-value services — services, however, that require the hands-on approach of a field service organization. Running a field force can be a business unto itself and one fraught with challenges, so several CLECs are outsourcing field services to achieve efficient, cost-effective processes.
FCC Addresses Broadband Deployment, Market Abuses
The FCC in April launched three proceedings to address the deployment of broadband services, the process by which it collects data from the industry, and whether regulatory intervention is warranted to curb harmful behavior by certain companies. COMPTEL is actively participating in these proceedings and encouraging all competitive communications service providers to weigh in on these issues as well.
