Zetta.net on Monday unveiled its SaaS-based DataProtect 4.5 cloud backup and disaster recovery platform that lets users make full server image backups without an appliance or local staging drive.

That means customers don’t have to wait for replacement hardware to recover data. Instead, having a direct connection to a cloud server allows for backing up and syncing full server images and getting that data back faster if there’s a disaster.

“Speed is crucial for data recovery," said Chris Schin, Zetta.net’s products vice president, saidn a prepared statement. “Extended downtime can have dramatic negative effect, and can sometimes cause a catastrophic business impact on an organization."

With that in mind, Zetta.net has designed DataProtect 4.5 with the ability to save server images in the Windows-native VHD format, which can be restored on any physical hardware or virtual platform. There’s also native VHD Bare Metal Recovery for restoring an entire system to new hardware by using native Windows capabilities.

In addition, DataProtect 4.5 has a direct-to-cloud function that extends to SQL and Exchange backups, and can be streamed to Zetta.net’s cloud without needing local disk space. Finally, there’s two-factor authentication for security protections.

DataProtect 4.5 now is available; Zetta.net sells through the channel.
