We should see our first LTE-only smartphone from Verizon in the first half of 2016.

That’s what company CFO Fran Shammo told attendees at an investor conference on Tuesday when discussing Verizon’s upcoming launch of voice-over-LTE (VoLTE). But we’ve heard this before, Droid Life noted, citing previous comments that we could see LTE-only phones as soon as the end of this year.

Verizon’s VoLTE is expected to make its debut later this year.

It’s possible that LTE-only phones will be compatible with all major carriers on LTE networks, making it easier for consumers to take their device to another operator when they want to switch.
