VMworld 2014 — Storage giant EMC unveiled new solutions and honored companies that are redefining the role of IT in their respective organizations this week at VMware’s VMworld.

EMC’s RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is the newest member of the RecoverPoint family. The company says RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines offers a simple, more efficient and proven operational and disaster recovery solution for applications in VMware-based cloud environments. This release provides local and remote replication in combination with continuous data protection for per-VM recovery to any point in time, with built-in automated disaster recovery orchestration.

EMC also announced several new VSPEX solutions. The first is built on EMC’s XtremIO all-flash array and also includes VMware vSphere and VMware’s new Horizon View 6 virtual desktop software. The second set of new solutions are built on ScaleIO, EMC’s software-defined storage offering. Instead of using an external array, ScaleIO leverages direct-attached storage that is native to the server, making storage and compute environments extremely scalable, EMC said.

Recognizing companies that are “redefining the role of IT in their respective organizations, EMC’s Redefine Awards honor companies that are leveraging hybrid cloud and integrated management and orchestration to improve business results and create a more agile and efficient IT organization. Recipients include Columbia Sportswear Company, Healthcare Realty, Inovalon and EmblemHealth.
