CenturyLink Inc. has taken its 1Gbps service to customers – residents and businesses alike – to 16 cities; plus, the provider plans to keep expanding that access over the next year.

Here’s where residents and businesses may use the high-speed broadband:

Columbia, Mo.; Denver; Jefferson City, Mo.; Las Vegas; Minneapolis-St. Paul; Omaha, Neb.; Orlando, Fla.; Portland, Ore.; Salt Lake City; Seattle.

Meantime, the service is available just to businesses in the following cities:

  • Albuquerque, N.M.
  • Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • Phoenix
  • Sioux Falls, S.D.
  • Spokane, Wash.
  • Tucson, Ariz.

CenturyLink said its 1Gbps will help cities attract new businesses and drive economic growth. That’s because the speed allows for fast access to applications in the cloud, the ability to share multimedia files and stream video content, and back up data in real time, CenturyLink said.

The 1Gbps service already was available to home users in parts of Omaha and Las Vegas, and certain businesses in Salt Lake City.
