AT&T, Verizon, Cablecos Top Latest Ethernet Leaderboard

Vertical Systems Group once again has ranked the leading carrier Ethernet providers in the United States.

For mid-year 2014, here are the top suppliers in order of retail ports, according to Vertical Systems Group’s latest Leaderboard:

  • AT&T
  • Verizon
  • tw telecom
  • CenturyLink
  • Time Warner Cable
  • Comcast
  • Cox
  • Level 3
  • XO Communications

But these leaders have their challengers. Vertical Systems Group says Ethernet up-and-comers holding 1-4 percent of the retail Ethernet market, in alphabetical order, are:

  • Charter
  • Cogent
  • Lightpath
  • MegaPath
  • Windstream
  • Zayo

"The U.S. Ethernet services market has entered a very healthy growth period," said Rick Malone, principal at Vertical Systems Group. “During the first half of 2014, more new Ethernet customer ports were installed than during any previous corresponding period. Customers shopping for Ethernet services have a broader choice of companies with substantial Ethernet assets."

Still, a shakeup might be on the way. It all depends on how the pending Comcast-Time Warner Cable and Level 3-tw telecom deals materialize, says Vertical Systems Group.

Meantime, companies with Ethernet port share below 1 percent include American Telesis, Bright House Networks, EarthLink Business, Frontier Communications, Lightower, Masergy, NTT America, Sprint, SuddenLink, TelePacific, US Signal and WOW! Business, according to Vertical Systems Group.
