A strong 2014 is getting even stronger for T-Mobile.

America’s fourth-largest wireless operator, which has been winning new customers with its “uncarrier" philosophy (1.3 million adds in the first quarter), has been declared an overall top performer in Kansas City, Missouri, by mobile-analytics firm RootMetrics.

The Magenta Network increased its score from 93.4 points in November to 97.2, thanks in part to the continuing expansion of its 4G LTE network. Verizon Wireless, which saw its score rise from 96.7 to 98, scored highest in K.C., but it was close enough for RootMetrics to call it a tie between the two companies.

AT&T, which finished first at the end of last year, slipped to third place, going from 96.9 points to 95.7. Sprint also saw its score decline, from 91.2 in November to 89.7 in this latest report.

RootMetrics’ overall performance category includes results across data, call, and text testing, measuring categories such as network reliability and download speeds.

Verizon edged out AT&T for the top ranking in reliability in Kansas City. T-Mobile was given the best rating for network speed.
