HP DISCOVER — In a bid to simplify and improve data security within enterprise organizations, HP unveiled at HP Discover under way in Las Vegas this week new encryption capabilities along with information protection and control solutions.

The new technologies will come to market under the HP Atalla family of products. Among the solutions showcased on Tuesday were HP Secure Encryption software and HP Enterprise Secure Key Manager (ESKM) 4.0, which provide controls to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive data. Both technologies integrate with HP hardware solutions, including HP ProLiant Gen 8 Servers, and third-party devices that support the OASIS Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) standard.

HP Atalla Information Protection and Control (IPC) software, meanwhile, protects enterprise data at every stage of the data life cycle — from creation to collaboration to storage, HP said. The software uses an information-centric encryption approach that applies persistent protection to follow the data throughout its life cycle, no matter where it resides.

Finally, HP Atalla Cloud Encryption provides customers the ability to easily and effectively encrypt their data in public, private and hybrid cloud environments.

With the technology, HP says customers can encrypt their data on the fly and trust that it will be secure throughout its usage. What's more, HP says the new solutions reduce the need and inclination to store keys and data together, which means that customers will no longer have to destroy storage technology to protect data when they want to upgrade or change storage devices. With HP encryption technology, customers can repurpose storage assets with assurance.

“New HP Atalla solutions support data whether it’s at rest, in motion or in use – across cloud, on-premises and mobile environments – to ensure continuous protection of an organization’s most sensitive information," HP said in a prepared statement. With these new announcements, HP is also “extending the scale and power of HP Atalla’s encryption technology from the data center to the cloud," said Art Gilliland, senior vice president and general manager, Enterprise Security Products, HP.
