5.5-Inch iPhone 6 ‘Confirmed’ Ahead of Release Date, But Not By Apple

If there was any doubt that Apple will unveil two new smartphones this year – a 4.7-inch handset and a 5.5-inch device that falls in the “phablet" category – that doubt is now a lot smaller.

It sounds like Apple's iPhone is getting bigger this fall.Industry insiders have been predicting for months that the Silicon Valley giant would introduce the new phones sometime in 2014, but Apple – per the norm – has been mum on the topic. Foxconn, its Asia-based manufacturer, however, issued what BGR says is a press release announcing that it’s preparing both devices.

Not only that, we might know when the larger of the handsets will be introduced. Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian White on Wednesday told his clients that his supply-chain research leads him to believe that the 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6 will be ready at the same time as the 4.7-inch version. That counters what was reported about six weeks ago – claims that delays would push the bigger phone’s release into next year.

Most analysts have pegged September as a likely release month for the iPhone 6, one year after the debut of the 5s. What changes should you expect? A faster processor, better camera stabilization, near-field communications technology and rounded edges have all been predicted.
