XO Unveils On-Demand Bandwidth

XO Communications now offers bandwidth on-demand for its WAN services.

The provider said the capability allows IT and network managers to accommodate unforeseen spikes in traffic while still supporting multiple cloud deployments and maintaining existing QoS characteristics. The on-demand bandwidth is always on, rather pre-scheduled or burstable at a best-effort level, XO said.

Instead, the network flexes as needed, said Don MacNeil, COO of XO.

"A business can cost-efficiently commit to and pay for a low average usage rate, but have the assurance of increasing bandwidth, on the fly and with assured performance, without having to predict and pre-schedule for anticipated periods of peak usage," he said in a prepared statement.
