It might not be long before we see Windstream gobble up another business.
CEO Jeff Gardner said in a Webcast this week that he wants to pursue the purchase of companies that would boost Windstream's enterprise-services business.
"We're really at a time where we can start looking out at acquisitions again to accelerate this transformation focused on the enterprise space obviously," Gardner said, despite the fact that the company is still wrapping up the integration of PAETEC, which it bought more than two years ago for $2.3 billion. Integrating PAETEC's billing and back-office systems remains, but that should be complete sometime next year.
Gardner reiterated what John Leach, executive vice president of enterprise sales, told Channel Partners this past summer, noting that an expansion of its data-center business, particularly on the West Coast, would be a possible goal since Windstream doesn't have one in that part of the country.
"We have the opportunity to be more opportunistic," Gardner said, as quoted by Fierce Telecom.
