Verizon Wireless has taken the wraps off a new tablet PC that might prove to be a serious challenger in the seven-inch category.

The Ellipsis 7 tablet is the first device in the carrier's brand-new Ellipsis line. Readers can download e-books using the Amazon Kindle app. Entertainment seekers can use Redbox Instant to watch movies when they are traveling, at the gym, or at home when someone else is using the TV.

The Ellipsis 7 also features a front-facing camera for video chat and has 4G LTE connectivity. Verizon Messages is included with the Ellipsis 7, allowing users to send and receive text messages from their tablet. It runs on Google's Android operating system.

The new device is the first product from Verizon Wireless in the Ellipsis family. It will be available online and in Verizon Wireless stores for $250 starting Nov. 7. For a limited time, customers can get $100 off any tablet, including the Ellipsis 7, when buying with a new two-year contract.
