Cloud communications provider 8x8 Inc. is buying Voicenet Solutions in the U.K. for $18.4 million in cash.

The deal will bolster 8x8's UC strategy, particularly among larger clients. It also allows 8x8 to support U.S. customers with multinational offices.

"The acquisition of Voicenet clearly demonstrates the execution of our international expansion strategy as well as our move up-market," said Vik Verma, CEO of 8x8.

Voicenet said it serves more than 1,000 business customers.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year.
