Enterprise communications giant Windstream is expanding its presence in the Big Apple.
The company has leased a space at Intergate.Manhattan, a 32-story data center and telecommunications building commissioned by Sabey Corp. The location, Windstream's third in Manhattan and the fourth in the New York metroplitan area, will be used for a new central office to provide capacity for future growth as well as future protection against natural disasters like Superstorm Sandy. Windstream also plans to install a satellite communications center which includes a rooftop antenna farm.
The building provides Windstream with network diversity as well as protection against natural disasters; last October's Hurricane Sandy shut down quite a few Manhattan data centers, the company noted.
Windstream signed a 15-year lease for an 11,000-square-foot space.
