Jim Ousley, CEO of CenturyLink subsidiary Savvis, is retiring, even though his employment contract was renewed in January through the end of this year.

Jim Ousley of SavvisCenturyLink issued a press release on Thursday afternoon stating that Ousley will retire from the company on April 1. Neither Ousley nor CenturyLink said why he is stepping down. In January, Ousley and Savvis renewed his $550,000-per-year agreement that also came with benefits and perks; the deal was good through Dec. 31.

Ousley was named chairman and CEO of Savvis in March 2010. Since 2006, he had been serving as non-executive chairman of the company, after joining the board in 2002.

Jeff Von Deylen will fill Ousley's vacancy. Von Deylen, who was named president of Savvis last November, will retain his current title. He joined Savvis in 2003 as CFO and a board member; he will report to Glen F. Post, III, president and CEO of CenturyLink. Savvis resides in CenturyLink's Data Hosting unit.

"We will miss Jim's presence and wish him well as he heads into retirement, and we look forward to continued growth and success in our Data Hosting segment under Jeff's leadership," Post said in a press release.

CenturyLink bought Savvis, a managed hosting and cloud services provider, in 2011.
