Avaya on Wednesday released the new version of its session border controller for enterprises.
The product features security upgrades for collaboration, since so many businesses have remote, home-based and mobile workers. As such, the new SBC also comes with enhanced security through Avaya Flare Experience on the Apple iPad and one-X Mobile apps for the iPhone.
There's also a "VPN-less" capability. Avaya described that as users having a secure, business-dedicated deskphone or softphone that automatically authenticates to one IP address on one session border controller for enterprises, without connecting to a virtual private network. The approach also cuts costs because it eliminates the need for a VPNs and optimizes IP address usage, Avaya said.
Finally, the new SBC secures SIP traffic as distributed workers use presence, chat, cloud and other SIP-powered apps.
The new session border controller works with the Avaya Aura platform.
"With threats to networks on the rise, the need to take action on security is essential," said Gary Barnett, senior vice president and general manager of collaboration platforms for Avaya. "The Avaya SBCE brings the ... security needed to ensure business collaboration and mobility initiatives are strengthened and protected against those with malicious intent."
