Birch Communications has added 43 central offices and 15 wireless towers across five states to its MetaSwitch- and Zhone Technologies-powered IP network.

The CLEC, which provides telecom, cloud and managed services to SMBs through channel partners, said this week its IP network now covers nine states and 290 central offices.

The expansion put Birch in two new states – North Carolina and South Carolina – and added wireless local loop capabilities in several new markets in Florida, said Chris Aversano, executive vice president and COO of Birch. And the company has more expansion in mind.

“We plan to grow to 13 states and 500 [central offices] by the end of 2015," said Chris Aversano, executive vice president and COO of Birch.

The new cities added to Birch's coverage area include: Fort Meyers, Port Charlotte, North Port, Punta Gorda, Englewood, Nokomis, Placida, Sarasota, Venice, Bradenton, Naples, and Tampa, Fla.; Topeka, Kan.; Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C.; Corpus Christi, Longview, Midland, and Waco, Texas; and Greenville, S.C.
