Wedge Networks this week launched its U.S. channel program, offering resellers the ability to sell its content security solutions along with their existing firewall and unified threat management systems.

Wedge Networks' offers deep content inspection, which is different from firewalls and UTM. "We complement those, not compete with them," said Barry George, a former VAR who joined the company as vice president of global sales in June with one goal of launching the channel.

Wedge Networks' solutions provide data loss prevention, antivirus, spam, malware and content filtering. They are delivered via the WedgeOS platform, which is available as a hardware appliance or as software only for servers, virtual machines or cloud delivery. The platform can be deployed in the corporate network, data center or by an operator (mobile or ISP).

"We are hardware-independent software-- it looks and acts the same wherever it's deployed," said  George.

Wedge Networks' reseller program includes three tiers -- silver, gold and platinum. Fees to enroll are $3,500 for gold and $5,500 for platinum; fees for gold level partners are waived during the launch.

To jumpstart its partner program, Wedge Networks is offering resellers' customers a 45-day trial of its full security suite through its “Instant-On Program," which is designed to expedite the evaluation period as well as identify vulnerabilities in the customer environment to ease the sale. The trial is run from a virtual machine or from the cloud. George said it takes about an hour to set up and 24 hours to get enough data for diagnostics. Typically, Wedge Networks' software finds 20-22 percent more issues than do firewalls or UTM systems alone, he said.

Wedge Networks also provides partners with co-op marketing funds (3 percent on an accrual basis) and discounts up to 48 percent on annual software licenses. Full discounts are recognized on renewals. Partners also can resell Wedge Networks' professional services for up to 20 percent discount and its support contract for up to 48 percent discount.

Wedge Networks also has a distribution agreement for the U.S. with Ingram Micro.
