The Microsoft Windows Phone 8 gained support from executives at AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, according to an article byFierceWireless.

These supporters predicted that the platform will be a strong competitor for Google's Android and Apple's iOS systems, and the article said comments from executives revealed a possible increase in carrier support for Windows Phone 8 products to come.

Microsoft could benefit from this new support after making up only 2.7 percent of the global smartphone market in the second quarter.

Verizon Wireless also announced plans to release smartphones using Windows Phone 8 software, and the company revealed plans to work with Nokia, which recently introduced two of the Windows devices.
