EarthLink Inc. on Monday announced plans to offer high-speed fixed and mobile broadband service to consumers thanks to a wholesale arrangement with Clearwire Corp.
Wireless service initially will target consumers for in-home use, revealed EarthLink, which plans to launch service early next year. Michele Sadwick, an EarthLink spokesperson, said the company plans to roll out the wireless product in the first quarter of 2013 or early in the second quarter.
Initial plans only include mobile data, Sadwick said in an email in response to a question on whether EarthLink would offer wireless voice service as well.
EarthLink intends to later offer mobile devices and services to small business customers.
Clearwire operates high-speed wireless networks based on WiMAX technology, although the company is developing an LTE network. EarthLink and Clearwire said they remain open to extending the relationship to LTE services in the future.
