WVT Communications Group, the parent of hosted UC provider Alteva, announced this week that it has hired a former Panasonic executive as its first chief marketing officer, with channel marketing as a top priority.
WVT's new CMO William Birnie is the former vice president and general manager of new business growth and cloud services for Panasonic, where he was responsible for its business communications product portfolio. Key responsibilities included the launch of cloud services and applications for small and medium businesses, HD video conferencing, IP PBX telephony, wired and wireless security solutions for home and business, Panasonic's Android-based applications portfolio, and 4G/LTE enabled solutions. Birnie’s additional experience over his 20-year career includes executive positions with Motorola, Lucent and Comcast.
“My first order of business is to continue driving the strong growth of our flagship brand, Alteva, by growing its channel partner and wholesale sectors," said Birnie, noting that Alteva already has a strong footprint in the channel community. "I plan to implement strategies that strengthen the relationships with current resellers and recruit new partners by demonstrating our commitment to providing the best solutions, programs and support."
Toward that goal, Birnie will work closely with WVT's chief sales officer, Louis Hayner.
Birnie told Channel Partners that he will be targeting partners that are "IP savvy" and have demonstrated expertise in specific vertical markets, such as professional services, health care and hospitality.
"We will deeply embrace the PBX dealers as valued channel partners," he added. "I have lived in that world for the past few years andI know how important it is to provide them with access to the cloud. It’s no secret that many businesses are moving to the cloud for their unified communication solutions and PBX dealers need a high-quality solution."
WVT includes its legacy business, Warwick Valley Telephone, an ILEC and regional broadband company, as well as recent acquisitions of UC providers Alteva and USA Datanet.
