There may be much more to Apple's media event next week than just the unveiling of its latest tablet computer, the iPad 3.
Apple is getting ready to unveil another version of the iPad 2; at least that's what supply-chain sources have told DigiTimes. Apple is expected to introduce an 8 GB iPad 2 – meaning you can choose from four versions of the device (8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB) – as well as two different models of the iPad 3, the Taiwanese newspaper reported.
The consumer-electronics giant has invited media to an event on March 7 in San Francisco is what is widely expected to mark its party for the next version of its best-selling tablet computer.
Another iPad 2 could help Apple fend off competition from a growing number of tablets that offer many of the features consumers crave but cost less than half a grand. Amazon's Kindle Fire, for example, is priced at about $200 instead of $500 for the iPad and it still offers popular perks like cloud storage and access to books/magazines and streaming music/videos.
