Text While Driving, Lose Your License

Admit it: You've sent a text while driving. A majority of Americans probably have at least once. Yet almost a majority also say they'd favor strict laws that take driver's licenses away from motorists caught doing it.

That's the finding of a new survey from researcher Poll Position, which surveyed nearly 1,100 people nationwide. Half said people should lose their license for texting behind the wheel, while 38 percent opposed it and 12 percent had no opinion.

Not surprisingly, younger Americans were the least interested in a license revocation. Fifty-two percent in the 18-29 age group were against it, while 39 percent liked the idea and 10 percent didn't care. The senior set was all for it, with two-thirds (67 percent) saying those licenses should be cut up and tossed.

Women favored the license punishment slightly more than men did, with 53 percent supporting it. Just 47 percent of men liked the idea.

The new year ushered in new laws in some states banning texting while driving.
