VoIP and unified communications provider Fonality this week named its second CEO in two years.
The Plano, Texas-based company, which distributes through resellers and affiliate partners, said on Tuesday it has hired David Scult as its new head. Scult will oversee daily operations, as well as Fonality's product development and sales functions. He is the third CEO to run the company. In January 2010, Dean Mansfield replaced Chris Lyman, Fonality's first-ever CEO, who told news outlets he was leaving on amicable terms.
Fonality didn't immediately say why Mansfield has departed. But, the company is counting on Scult's experience in the tech world -- namely as general manager of Microsoft Office 365 -- "to support Fonality's upward trajectory," said Paul Weinstein, a Fonality board member and general partner at investor Azure Capital Partners. Two expectations are that Scult will expand global operations and beef up innovation. Plus, Scult's "vision and prowess as a thought leader in both the software and communications industry will also be primary drivers in growing our sales and channel operations," Weinstein added.
In addition to Microsoft, Scult has worked in executive roles for Groove Networks, Radnet and Lotus Development Corp.
Fonality makes open-source products -- including IP PBXs, IP phones and software -- for SMBs.
