Avaya Adds Mobility to IP Office
January 11, 2012 - News

Avaya Inc. has upgraded its IP Office unified communications (UC) platform with a mobility application.

The enhancement lets SMEs use IP Office on their Android phones and, later this year, on iPhones. The application -- called one-X Mobile Preferred for IP Office -- allows for several capabilities. First, it supports conference calls for multiple people. Next, there's presence for displaying availability status to co-workers. There's also instant messaging and visual voicemail, as well as a "geopresence" feature that allows employees to identify each other's physical locations in places such as hospitals and hotels.

one-X Mobile Preferred for IP Office is related to Essential Mobility for IP Office, which works on Symbian, Windows Mobile and iPhone devices. Support for Android and BlackBerry phones will be available in the first quarter.

Finally, Avaya added several plug-ins to spur productivity. IP Office now enables users to port Google Talk and IP Office contacts into one-X Portal for IP Office; allows people to make and receive calls from a page; lets employees view directory contacts for Google Talk and IP Office in one location; and provides visual voicemail within a Microsoft Outlook email window.

Avaya sells through channel partners.
