Cloud provider 8x8 Inc. has added two wireless telephony devices – the Polycom KIRK KWS300 Wireless Base Unit and KIRK 5020 Cordless IP Phone – and a related cordless service to its portfolio for companies whose workers need to be mobile around their campuses.
"Businesses are always looking for new ways to provide their employees with cost effective, cutting-edge tools that will help them better perform their daily tasks," Debbie Jo Severin, 8x8's chief marketing officer, said in a press release. The new 8x8 offering takes away the frustration of not being able to reach employees when they're not at their desks, she added.
The product set is built on the DECT standard; the cordless service lets users transfer a live call from their desk phones to their cordless handsets, and vice versa. Each KWS300 base supports up to 12 KIRK 5020 handsets, with a maximum of 4 concurrent calls per base. The platform uses a SIP interface to 8x8's virtual PBX and supports Power-over-Ethernet. Each handset works for up to 100 hundred feet from a base station.
The 8x8 KIRK wireless system is available now. 8x8 sells through agents and VARs.
