Verizon Wireless is reportedly suffering its third interruption in data service this month.
"We are investigating reports of some customers experiencing trouble accessing the 4G LTE network," Verizon Wireless told The Verge, a tech-focused news outlet. "The network itself continues to operate and all customers continue to be able to make calls, send text messages and utilize data services. 3G devices are operating normally."
Data services at the largest U.S. mobile operator were down today in Chicago, reported The Verge, which said its own check on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus revealed that service wasn't working in New York City either. Customers from New York City to San Francisco are suffering downtimes in data, according to SlashGear, which printed the same statement from Verizon as The Verge and other websites.
"Out in Seattle," one Verizon Droid Razr customer wrote this afternoon on a Droid forum, "Verizon 4G LTE Nationwide Outage ... Again." "Has anyone successfully received a credit on their account for these outages? If so, how did you go about getting it? I dont [sic] want to sit on the phone for 20 minutes to get a credit for a dollar."
The outage is the third one this month; just last week customers were having problems connecting to Verizon's 3G and 4G networks, CNET reported.
"I knew i shouldve [sic] switched to ATT instead of renewing my contract with verizon," one person wrote on the same Droid forum. "this blows."
Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Verizon Wireless, whose 4G network now covers about 200 million Americans in 190 U.S. markets, did not immediately respond to a further request for comment on the outage.
