Unified communications will be the driver behind a nice spike in mobile cloud enterprise revenues over the next five years. So says Juniper Research in its latest report.

Juniper’s Mobile Cloud report says revenues in this space will reach $39 billion by 2016 as operators offer corporate clients a variety of UC suites and migrate their spending from traditional siloed offerings.

Cloud-based services, Juniper says, can be highly effective in keeping customers, and give service providers an opportunity to develop “double-sided" revenues by opening their application programming interfaces (APIs) to software-as-a-service (SaaS) providers, resulting in shared revenues derived from their services.

One highlight of the report is data security when migrating to the cloud. While it’s a concern, it’s also an opportunity for cloud security providers.

“If an enterprise makes the decision to store data in the cloud, it is imperative that a solution is in place that can dynamically tag and sort that data to determine which data can go to the cloud and which individuals are permitted to have access to that data," said report author Dr. Windsor Holden.
