Video conferencing company Avistar Communications Corp. now supports Microsoft Lync through a new platform.

The San Mateo, Calif.-based firm on Tuesday debuted Avistar C3 Unified for Microsoft Lync. The system connects a company’s video conferencing gear and lets users take advantage of the unified communications (UC) features within Microsoft Lync. Avistar also said its virtual desktop implementation techniques can fully video-enable Microsoft Lync.

Avistar distributes through channel partners, who participate in one of four tiers: Gold Channel Partner, Associate Channel Partner, Independent Sales Representative or Technology Vendor Partner. Program benefits for all levels include dedicated channel managers; co-marketing and promotional incentives; lead generation; sales support; and technical training and certification.

Microsoft last year launched Lync as a replacement for Office Communications Suite. Lync integrates with Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Exchange. But perhaps the most important Lync feature is its calling capabilities. The latest version includes a soft phone, and automatic presence and location updates that accommodate e911 features.
