MegaPath Inc. announced Monday that it is augmenting its network-based managed security services with a premises-based component, offering customers cloud, premises or hybrid solutions as desired or required for regulatory compliance. The services are available for sale through the company’s indirect sales channels.
MegaPath Managed Security Services leverage Fortinet’s Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions both within the MegaPath network and also on the customers’ premises.
Unlike the legacy cloud-based network security service, the new premises-based security service does not require customers to use MegaPath’s network connectivity.
And, it can be purchased alongside with MegaPath’s cloud-based security service, on a location-by-location basis, explained Arnaud Gautier, vice president of product management at MegaPath. He noted that customers may have different requirements by location, such as a headquarters or a branch or retail store based on the usage parameters.
Whether customers purchase one or both, they are proactively managed by MegaPath. “The equipment homes into our management platform," Gautier said. Customer’s can view activity, reports and set/change policies and preferences via a Web-based portal, he added.
“It provides a second line of defense at the premises," Gautier said. That can be important in certain industries like retail, where PCI compliance requires detection of rogue wireless devices, which must be done with a premises device, he explained.
Customers can select the SaaS service to address their specific security requirements, corporate guidelines and compliance needs.
To that end, MegaPath offers enhanced Compliance Services that incorporate managed logging, vulnerability scanning and Security Information Management (SIM). MegaPath’s managed logging provides users with real-time collection and correlation of security events along with a daily automated review function. It also allows users to configure alerts for PCI-related events. The SIM capabilities deliver increased correlation of events across multiple devices and sites, and allow users to view an audit trail for any questionable events.
In addition, MegaPath offers Attack Mitigation with an advanced firewall and intrusion prevention with rogue wireless detection, Web filtering with content filtering and white/blacklisting, anti-malware with anti-virus, anti-crimeware, anti-spam and application security with advanced application control and data leak prevention.
MegaPath installs the CPE and the client location. Clients are charged a monthly fee for the cloud-based service. For the premises-based offer, they pay for the equipment upfront or in installments along with the managed services fee. That fee varies by the number of locations, and is available in two- and three-year terms.
Gautier said that initially the service will be targeted to enterprise accounts and in three to four months will be rolled out to the small and medium business market.
Channel partners will be trained to sell the security solutions, but do not need to be certified. Commissions are paid on the network services subscription if applicable and the managed services subscription. Additionally, the CPE can be purchased upfront or added to the monthly service fee. In the latter event, agents are paid on the total monthly recurring charges, Gautier said.
